Romania counts on its nuclear energy development

A second nuclear plant in Romania will have among two to four reactors that will be built starting with 2020. Romania currently holds two functional reactors at its Cernavoda nuclear plant and plans to finish works for another two. Some 12% of the Romania's energy need is assured through the Cernavoda nuclear plant.

Nucleaelectrica director Teodor Chirica, quoted by Romanian news agency Mediafax, presented on Monday more details about the new nuclear plants Romania plans to set up. He argues that Romania will need another nuclear plant starting with 2020 to regulate the energy system.
Chirica argued that this strategy is necessary since more and more companies in the energy sector consider setting up wind plants with an unstable energy production. Moreover, Chirica only comes to support PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu's declarations who last year announced that authorities would set up a new plant after finishing all reactors in Cernavoda.
Romania's only nuclear plant will be improved, with two other reactors after a total investment of 2.2 billion euro. Authorities are currently waiting final confirmations from six companies from Germany, Romania, Spain, the Czech Republic, Italy and Belgium, which have been selected to develop the project.   Source:  HotNews.ro
