Investments Romania - destination for ecological investments
Portuguese Group Martifer is to build in Romania a factory producing biodiesel – a fuel obtained through rape and sunflower processing, in compliance with European Standard EN 14214. The Euro 47 million project yet to be finished in two years will generate 50 new jobs in addition to a significant number offered to seasonal farm workers. .
Established in 1990, MARTIFER GROUP has a Euro 125 million turnover and 950 employees all over Europe with plants in Portugal, Spain, Germany, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovak Republic and Romania covering a number of sectors like: steel structures, energy production and real estates.
Martifer Group entered Romanian market throughout its four newly - established companies, three of them - Biomart, Agromart and Martifer Energy starting to operate in 2005. In 2006, is yet to start running Martifer Construct - the fourth company of the Portuguese Group, specialized in metallic structures. For the time being, Martifer Construct is considering various locations for implementing its future Euro10-15million project. 2006 is also the year for establishing the fifth Martifer Company- Martifer Invest, operating in the real estates sector throughout a Euro 50 million investment to be finished over the next five years.
Biomart Project stands for a significant step in replacing conventional fuels with renewable ones, as complying with EU Directive 2003/30/ on the promotion of the use of biofuels or other renewable fuels for transportation. EU Directive 2003/30 has set the target of 2% biofuel usage by end 2005 and 20% by end 2020 as the European Union regulations aim at reducing countries dependence on imported oil and carbon dioxide emission. Biodiesel is an alternative fuel, completely non-polluting, produced from renewable sources. It is used for diesel engines and can be blended at any level with petroleum diesel to be used for transportation. The lifecycle production and use of biodiesel produces approximately 90% less carbon dioxide emissions, and 98% less sulfur dioxide. Biodiesel production in the European Union reached 2 million tones by the end of 2004. The first step in developing the very project is building a Euro 16 million production facility, followed by a Euro 31 million factory for oil processing to be built by the end of 2007.
Martifer Group intends to acquire some 50th hectares to secure the minimum necessary raw material for the production unit to run. In the meantime, Agromart will sign contracts with farmers for some 150th hectares of rape and sunflower. The refinery is also expected to produce some 11 Ktones/year nitroglycerine as alternative production using high-quality technology.
The location decided upon is Lehliu – Gara where acquired 10 hectares of land inside the town. Negotiations for purchasing the very land had the fully support of Mr. Jenel Serban- Calarasi prefect, and Mr. Constantin Dumitru – senator of Calarasi. Martifer representatives, having more than a few rounds of talks with ARIS representatives stated that deciding upon Romania was determined by reduced land costs, adequate crops of oil seeds, and our country status of future EU member. http://www.arisinvest.ro/news_detail.asp?ID=357
